On June 20, 2011 at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, Long Island, Michael Puntillo, Jr. on behalf of Jobco Realty and Construction, Inc. accepted the “Sense of Place” Award from Vision Long Island during the 10th Annual Smart Growth Awards.  Mr. Puntillo's firm is currently proposing for 142 units of multifamily rental housing on four stories located above 27,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and office space in four buildings centered on a large public square in the heart of Glen Cove’s downtown known as Village Piazza.  The plan integrates structured parking and takes advantage of underutilized adjacent public parking garages.  Mr. Puntillo has entered into an understanding with area universities to utilize a portion of the units to house medical interns.  The Village Piazza is currently being reviewed before the Glen Cove Planning Board with the assistance of Turner Miller Group and was made possible by the City of Glen Cove’s recently adopted Zoning Amendments and award-winning Master Plan both prepared with the assistance of Turner Miller Group.  The project promotes the goals of the City's Master Plan in bringing young resident populations into the downtown to help support the retail, service and restaurant markets, as well as, increasing pedestrian traffic and vibrancy in the City’s CBD, and enhancing an existing central public gathering space used for concerts, farmers markets and other public assemblies.  Mr. Puntillo personally thanked Mayor Ralph Suozzi, CDA Director Kelly Morris, Planning Board Chairman Tom Scott and City Planner Max Stach from Turner Miller Group for the cooperation and support necessary to make the proposal possible.  The proposed project will be the subject of a public hearing before the Planning Board on Tuesday June 21, 2011 and the Planning Board is anticipated to make a decision on the Special Use permit application and site plan within the month.  To learn more about Vision Long Island, please visit:  http://www.visionlongisland.org/.
