Landmark Visual Simulation Law Wins Award

August 17, 2010

Mayor Ralph Suozzi of the City of Glen Cove recently announced that the City’s Visualization Simulation Submission Law received first place honors at the 23rd Annual New York Conference of Mayors and Municipal Officials (NYCOM) Local Government Achievement Awards on May 12th in Saratoga Springs, NY.   Glen Cove won in the Public Management and Administration category.  NYCOM officials called the ordinance a model for other communities because "it takes the guess work out of evaluating how a development will fit into a neighborhood."
The ordinance requires visual simulations or 3D digital “fly-throughs” for proposed large-scale developments. Turner Miller Group assisted the City with the preparation of the legislation.  The legislation was largely based on the recommendations of Environmental Simulation Center (ESC), an independent not-for-profit laboratory.
NYCOM is an association of 590 cities and villages in New York State founded in 1910. NYCOM provides on-going training and education of local officials.   The honor was awarded the NYCOM’s 101st annual meeting in Saratoga Springs.
"I'm really proud of this," Suozzi said. "First place is a great thing."
