Turner Miller Group Assists with Award Winning Master Plan

The recently adopted City of Glen Cove Master Plan was honored with a 2009 Smart Growth Award by Vision Long Island, a not-for-profit organization seeking to promote more livable, economically sustainable, and environmentally responsible growth on Long Island. The Master Plan was pioneered by Mayor Ralph Suozzi who engaged Turner Miller Group, with offices in the Hudson Valley and Cheshire Connecticut, and New York City-based Phillips, Preiss, Shapiro Associates to assist the City Council in developing the Plan. “This is a tremendous milestone and really the culmination of a very collaborative process that included myself, the City Council, a variety of resources within my administration, residents, business people, professional planners, civic associations, environmentalists, and people from our neighboring communities,” Mayor Suozzi announced.

The Master Plan is a document which sets forth land use and development policies to guide growth by protecting stable neighborhoods while incentivizing economic revitalization of the downtown and marginal neighborhoods. The Plan includes strategies for protecting the environment not only through regulation, but also by promoting evolving green technologies, allowing mixed-use and transit-oriented development, and steering future growth to brownfields and to the Central Business District. The Mayor praised the plan, “The Plan sets high standards for redevelopment in terms of design, mixture of uses and environmental protection. It also recognizes the potential for active and vibrant hubs within the community that will attract a broader array of shopping, entertainment and housing options.” The Master Plan is available online at www.glencove-li.com.
